"Some folks call me 'The Wordsmith with a Paintbrush.'
My 'walkabout' began with my sister's death. I had a tough time dealing with it and finding myself. My parents stayed together, somehow. It took me decades to locate the missing pieces of the family puzzle. Along the way, I caught momentary glimpses of my true self on distant mountain passes. I put my other desires on hold until I finally resolved the conundrum of the Burgoon's.
By that time Climate Change was a hot topic and my dormant interest in Mayflies and Caddis was fanned to flaming passion.
Once again turning over rocks to see what was there and hours at a stereomicroscope were captivating and exhilarating! When I was a teenager, the aquatic insects in Pigeon Run coursing our woods and meadows galvanized my attention for hours.
Being an artist/painter didn't enter my mind. I was having fun."

Carroll painted son and daughter playing beside a park waterfall for a Big Pharma heiress; And he rendered the plantation mansion of a Booze King with the family puppy greeting friends. A Fort Worth scene went to a Cornhusker cattleman; A barnyard cat in a San Antonio garden went to an oil company president, and the dockside chef's cat at the century-old Club de Yates de Río de Janeiro helped put New Mexico's orphans in loving homes. ART HISTORY! EVER HEAR OF BURGUNDY, FRANCE?
The Burgoons are the Burguns from Burgundy France, and were until our cordwainer patriarch, Jean Jacques Burgun, anglicized our family name (in 1740) while aboard Lydia sailing to Baltimore, MD in the Colonies. (See P. 91??? Ellis Island records.) He settled next to Charles Carroll of Carrollton, last living Signer of the Declaration of Independence. Burgoons were probably from the feisty, combative
Burgundiōnes who kicked butt all over Europe starting in ca. 249 AD when they returned to the mainland from Burgundarholmr Is. The Kingdom of the Burgundians became part of France; others joined Attila's Hun army, or shrank into a Swiss chalet. I'm here because 130 "Rock Happy" UDT-14 frogmen (Navy SEALs) kept my dad alive on USS Bull APD-78. Bravo Zulu. Friends call me, 'Lobster.' Nah. I'm just a "Rock Happy Yankee," a farm boy, BUT, not a USN SEAL.
The title of Carroll's first book, Ode to Joy, had the foreword written by Four-star General Tommy Franks, USA (Ret.), Commander USCENTCOM during the Gulf War.

✔ I lived with a brilliant mom, famous dad, Ivy Leaguers,

I was born in the perfect soil for a 100-point Burgundy.
DEATH: A ROUGH BEGINNING with SURVIVOR GUILT
When I was 4½ y/o my older sister died. There was no funeral, her remains were abandoned, and she was never mentioned again as if she had never lived. Virtually all evidence was removed. She was forgotten, kind of like an invisible undertow. So, I matured the way a sea wall weathers hurricanes. I had a lot of questions without the right words to begin. I began drawing meticulously. Thus, I became a self-taught artist, a wordsmith, and today, the paintbrush poet.
I began fly fishing with my mom's bamboo fly rod taken into Alaska
a few years later, and took an Orvis rod and reel to Montana's wilderness. Being in the water was so comforting, rejuvenating, and healing for me. Naturally, I became a Mayfly and Caddis expert at the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia (Est. 1812). Now, impromptu watercolors are a joy. Connect the dots, if you can.
"POKEY" PURPLE THISTLES, A COSMOPOLITAN FOOD SOURCE
for myriad pollinators (Fritillaries, goldfinches, hummingbirds).
MY DRAWING, "Beauty in Essence" TRULY WAS A SELF-PORTRAIT.
When I was 43 y/o, I went to Saldaña, ESP where I became a painter.
I had no art history. Yet, purple thistles were my admission ticket.
The very instant Paco saw my drawing he told me to go to Spain
and he would teach me to do what he did. Well. OK then.
Purple passion carried me through pennilessness, homelessness,
and a decade of myriad low paying part time jobs.
(It didn't matter that I am a preemie and my timing

"Father of the National Parks."
"Animals are more than ever a test of our character, of our capacity for empathy and for decent, honorable conduct and faithful stewardship. We are called to treat them with kindness, not because they have rights or power or some claim to equality, but in a sense because they don't; because they all stand unequal and powerless before us." - Dr. James Alfred Wight, OBE FRCVS, British veterinarian and author (Pen name, James Herriot),
All Creatures Great and Small,
All Things Wise and Wonderful,
The Lord God Made Them All.
WHEN LOGIC ISN'T ENOUGH!
Watercolors are impromptu, so you need to get them right the first time. Watercolors cheerfully dance on the corpus callosum changing the way you think, releasing your healthy, deepest side, and naturally finger the G-spot of your spirit. Watercolors ground and earth you. The prize watercolors humbly meld art and science seamlessly. AND, you must listen assiduously to hear a watercolor's 10 octave melody, intelligible to only the world's most astute by an introverted artist
who goes abstract the second logic and words aren't enough.
"Logic will get you from A to B.
Imagination will take you everywhere."
