Well, some lessons are tough to learn even with a Hall of Fame, multi-World Champion cutting horse winner teaching me a few miles up the road --- in Celina, Texas. Saudi kings and Hollywood movie stars ship their high-dollar cutting horses to him to be trained. They tag along for a lesson or two. Well, I had an appointment with THE HORSEMAN. (Sketch above). He shuffled, boot scootin', along through 3 inches of Texas barn dust, with an arena of hat band sweat, staring 2 feet ahead, and slowly drawled, "Back in a minute," then Punk disappeared into the barn. Ten minutes later, I wondered what he was doing. In the dark, a pair of cloudy skylights showed Punk resting his chin on hands atop comfortably crossed arms on the top rail of a coral, the image of concentrated library study. I did the same alongside him. The celeb's horse he'd just trained outdoors was center ring with its bridle on a lead rope drawn down tight to its right front hoof and tied to its left rear hoof. Perplexed, its nose in the dust, the horse hobbled in very tiny ground tied circles. After a few minutes of dust-twirling silence, I croaked, "Punk. What 'er ya doin'?" He calmly said, "I call it 'submitted.' " Suddenly I realized I was seeing what I was about to learn! The horse aced the lesson in 5 minutes --- A stem of wine, or two, or three, ... in 10 years I had it mastered!
The young cognoscenti = doctors, lawyers, and biz whiz kids in a group called, Voce Forte (Dallas Opera) routinely introduced me as "The Artist Carroll." Meetings were in homes with a nice wine selection for the evening performance and lecture. Most of my paintings were rendered while listening to great music on Classical WRR 101.1 FM. Nevertheless, I paint listening to each patron's favorite music, including Japanoise and Danger Music. Every painting is unique by nature, 100% custom not tailored, and therefore, always in fashion, always personal, always timeless stories."
I shared the entertaining stories behind the paintings I'd made in Spain (and poems) with thousands of delighted people who clamored for me to put them in a book for them. It's time: I'm moving and will publish these as Blue Skies Notebook Volumes I, II, and III, as handsome illustrated journals you can tell your own story in. I expect to print 2,500 journals in each volume and donate them to 503 c 3's. They won't be in bookstores anywhere. I wasn't put here to be a billionaire, or a G.O.A.T., and die.
